Course Outline
SUBJECT 1 – PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS & LIFESTYLE
During the first subject of your yoga teacher course, you’ll learn about:
✓ History of Yoga
✓ Sanskrit
✓ Bhagvad Gita
✓ Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Koshas, Mantras, Yamas and Niyamas
✓ 10 fundamental principles of yoga
✓ Ethics of a yoga teacher
✓ Yogic lifestyle
✓ Ayurvedic
This subject requires 15 hours of contact time and 10 hours of non-contact time.
SUBJECT 2 – ANATOMY & YOGA PHYSIOLOGY
Subject two of your yoga teacher course explores:
✓ Musculoskeletal anatomy applicable to yoga postures and caution postures.
✓ Gain a basic understanding of the entire body, including the circulatory system, digestive system, endocrine system, immune system, integumentary system, lymphatic system, nervous system and kidney-urinary system. We use examples of caution postures and how to apply yoga to the various internal systems.
✓ Hot yoga, sweat and hydration.
✓ Study of energies, Chakras and tantras – as well as their relationship to the pranayama and yoga.
This subject requires 10 hours of contact time, and 10 hours of non-contact time.
SUBJECT 3 – TEACHING TECHNIQUES PRACTICE
During this subject, you’ll learn about:
✓ Demonstrating techniques and postures to students.
✓ Learning each posture in our preferred style of Hot Physique, including asanas and pranayama.
✓ Importance of meditation in our final savasana, as well as throughout the entire Hot Physique sequence.
✓ Understanding the key elements of how to teach in a heated environment.
✓ Understanding the nature of Hot Yoga and normal room temperature yoga.
✓ Learning the art of setup and alignment of each posture.
✓ Understanding the benefits of specific postures; incorporating anatomy into each posture.
✓ Learning how to encourage students.
✓ Assisting students in need to learn the fundamentals.
✓ Understanding injury.
✓ Understanding chanting and the spiritual elements of yoga.
✓ Putting into practice all of the teachings, step by step.
This subject requires 100 hours of contact time.
SUBJECT 4 – TEACHING METHODOLOGY
Learn and discover the importance of:
✓ Teacher presence (teaching in the now).
✓ Understanding, communicating, language; the use of all senses including sound, eyes and touch; engaging with students, self-energy, awareness of students requiring help, use of demonstration.
✓ Understanding corrections and alignments, which are covered by teaching techniques for every posture.
✓ Teaching style of Hot Physique and set of sequence utilising variations.
✓ Business skills, ie. learning how to set up a studio.
✓ What are the important elements in running a yoga studio.
✓ How to set up your classes and open a studio. How to close a studio.
✓ Personal development and the importance of continuing education. What next as a teacher.
This subject requires 25 hours of contact time.
SUBJECT 5 – PRACTICUM
Here we practice what we have learnt so far during the yoga teacher course:
✓ Teaching a live yoga class. Learn and practice all the elements of teaching yoga with students.
✓ Learn how to assist students in a class environment, as well as observing and assisting in classes taught by others.
✓ We’ll also look at various scenarios that may come up when teaching yoga, and how we should deal with these situations.
This subject requires 10 hours of contact time.
ELECTIVE HOURS – SELF DEVELOPMENT
